Yesterday, Mick and Jason had a full, fast-paced day in the shop, taking care of five Venetian blind orders with multiple blinds per order, along with a large number of area rugs. Many of those blinds are being delivered and picked up today—great work by the team! 🪟🧺
Meanwhile, the phones have been ringing nonstop with bookings for residential and commercial carpet and upholstery cleaning. With warmer weather arriving, drying times are faster, which is one of the reasons this time of year is our busiest. 🌤️

It’s been a busy start to the day here at Classic Care Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning.
Josh and Nathan are out taking care of both residential and commercial carpet and upholstery cleaning, while also picking up blinds to be cleaned back at our shop. We often get asked how we wash area rugs, so today we’re sharing a step-by-step overview—without giving away all of our secrets 😉.
Our Area Rug Cleaning Process:
Step 1: Inspection
Every rug is carefully inspected for fiber type, construction, stains, and any potential concerns. Honesty and setting clear expectations with our clients is always a priority.
Step 2: Dust Removal
For rugs that are safe to do so, we run them through one of our specialized machines designed to remove dry soil trapped deep within the rug’s foundation.
Step 3: Pre-Spray
Rugs are laid out and pre-treated using cleaning solutions tailored to the specific fibers. For example, wool rugs require very different care than synthetic rugs.
Step 4: Wash Time (the fun part!)
Rugs that are suitable are washed in our automated area rug cleaning machine. Some delicate rugs cannot go through the machine—those are carefully hand-washed instead. Mick works some real magic on those in the shop.
Step 5: Centrifuge
Once washed, the rug is rolled and placed into our centrifuge, which removes most of the water and leaves the rug only slightly damp.
Step 6: Grooming & Drying
Most rugs are hung on our drying racks. Certain rugs, such as tufted wool, must be dried flat to protect the backing. We have designated areas in our shop to lay them out safely and flip them as needed.
Step 7: Final Inspection
Once dry, each rug goes through a final inspection, is vacuumed, wrapped, and prepared for pickup or delivery.
Quality and honesty are our top priorities. While not every stain can be guaranteed to be removed, we can guarantee your rugs will be cleaned as thoroughly and safely as possible.

A Little shop update after a busy Tuesday!

Good morning everyone!
We’ve officially hit the midpoint of the week, and it’s been a busy and efficient one — just the way we like it!
Yesterday was a full-on team effort:
Nathan was out on the truck taking care of residential carpet cleaning, while
Mick and Jason were hard at work in the shop all day.
Their morning started by taking down clean, dry area rugs and getting them ready to go back to clients — coordinating pickups for drop-offs and scheduling deliveries where needed. Once that was wrapped up, the tubs were filled and the next round of rugs went into a fresh, great-smelling soak.
The rest of the day was spent washing as many rugs as possible and tackling some blind cleaning as well. Safe to say, it was a busy one!
Meanwhile, I kept things moving in the office and jumped in to help wherever needed.

Why Do Carpet Edges Turn Black?
Have you ever noticed dark or black staining along the edges of carpet—especially near baseboards or doorways, most commonly in older homes? This is often caused by filtration soiling.
What is filtration soiling?
As air moves through your home, it carries tiny airborne particles such as dust, soot, oils, and combustion residue from furnaces, fireplaces, candles, cooking, and outdoor pollution. When that air is pushed through small gaps along walls and under doors, the carpet acts like a filter—trapping those particles along the edges.
Why is it more common in older homes?
Older homes often have:
• Less effective air sealing
• Older HVAC systems
• Years of gradual buildup
• Increased airflow through wall cavities
Can it be cleaned?
Professional cleaning can often improve the appearance, but in many cases the staining is extremely difficult or impossible to fully remove. Over time, these particles bond deeply to the carpet fibers—and sometimes even the backing.
Important to know:
This is not mold and not caused by poor housekeeping. It’s a long-term airflow and air-quality issue.

Good morning and happy Friday! 🌞 We’ve had a successful and productive week, and we hope yours has been the same!
Today, I want to share an impressive before-and-after of an area rug that came to us saturated with dog urine. I was initially skeptical when our technician brought it in, but after dedicating some time to it yesterday, I’m amazed by the results!
Here’s how we tackled this one:
We flushed the rug by laying it flat, flooding it with water, and using a specialized tool connected to a hose to go over the affected area until no more yellow was visible in the water. We then flipped the rug and used our commercial-grade pressure washer to rinse the back, followed by a second rinse on the top for thoroughness.
After that, the rug was soaked in a bath with a nice smelling deodorizing solution for a few hours, ensuring any remaining urine was eliminated. Once it had time to dwell, we ran the rug through our cleaning machine, scrubbing both sides multiple times with a solvent-boosted pre-spray and cleaning solution. It was then rinsed in our centrifuge, spun almost dry, and finished with an enzyme deodorizer spray before hanging to complete the drying process.

Why Do Carpets Ripple After Cleaning?
If you’ve noticed ripples or waves in your wall-to-wall carpet after cleaning, don’t be alarmed. This often happens and typically resolves on its own.
Here’s Why:
Moisture Absorption: The carpet absorbs moisture during cleaning, causing the backing and fibers to expand slightly, which can lead to temporary rippling.

This upcoming weekend marks one of the most memorable events we have here in Nanaimo every summer—it's Bath Tub Weekend! Every year, on the last weekend of July, we gather for the exciting bathtub races in Departure Bay. It's a fantastic event that brings joy to people of all ages!
We want to give a big shoutout to the participants who build and race these incredible bathtub boats. It’s quite the event and definitely a great workout! This tradition brings back fond memories for us at Classic Care, as we used to have our own bathtub boat, and Lorne himself used to race it!
In honor of this fun-filled weekend, we wanted to reminisce and show our appreciation for everyone involved in making this event happen. Attached are some nostalgic photos of our Classic Care bathtub boat and Lorne in action.

Good morning! As we continue celebrating 30 years of Classic Care, let's take another trip down memory lane.
Here’s a glimpse of one of our earlier shops on Terminal Avenue, where our iconic red trucks and our old mascot, 'Puddles,' were part of the scenery. The basement space was all we had back then. Despite the limited room, our dedicated team managed to clean blinds and area rugs efficiently.
As we expanded, we moved to our shop on Mostar Road, where we could accommodate more advanced equipment. This is where Lorne installed racks for area rug cleaning and introduced the Esporta machine. We even had a machine similar to our current truck mounts installed in the shop to clean area rugs with.
Our journey brought us to our current location at 1920 Northfield Rd., where we upgraded to even better equipment to provide top-notch cleaning for your rugs. Our growth over the years has allowed us to refine our focus and improve our services continuously.

Good morning! As we continue celebrating our 30th anniversary this week, Lorne uncovered some nostalgic treasures—old business cards and another newspaper clipping from our early days. While I can't pinpoint the exact years for the blue business card, I vividly remember the red and white one from when I first started with Classic Care.
Do you remember when we had the Esporta machine? It filled the shop with such a pleasant scent! We used it to clean sports gear, firefighter uniforms, and more. We even tackled construction cleans during that time. Although we enjoyed offering these diverse services, we eventually decided to focus our expertise on what we do best: caring for your beloved area rugs, blinds, wall-to-wall carpets, tile and grout, and upholstery.
